Do you need an occupational license? The people at the Business Assessment Center for my county were unsure if I needed one. But they suggested I go to the licensing bureau and see. The bureau was already closed and I was hoping for a quick answer on the forum to save me the possibly pointless trip to the licensing bureau. Thanks.

Depending in what state you conduct your business and what type of business you conduct. If for instance you are in new jersey, and you just clean carpets you don't need an occupational license. However, if you are involved in restorative work, viz. flood and fire restoration, then you need a NJHIC (new jersey home improvement contractor) license. It is illegal to do restorative repair work in a residential setting without the license. However in a commercial setting you do not need any license. Our company is currently licensed with the NJ dept. of community Affairs for undertaking restorative work. We however do not need a license for the janitorial service that our company also does.
