Hello all,
First of all I would like to say thank you to everyone here for sharing such valuable knowledge with us. You may not realize how much this message board means to people like myself who have a dream to run a floor business, but may not have all the knowledge of the industry needed to do so successfully.
I was curious to know how you started your floor business. What got you into the business? Did you have a regular job to support yourself in the beginning? how did you actually generate your first clients, door to door sales, flyers? etc.
I will very soon start a floor stripping/waxing business. i am currently working a desk job but am growing tired of working for "the man" and want to build something of my own. Sorry for the long post but I would appreciate any input from you all.
Thank you!!

Welcome,
I started my Janitorial business 2 years ago and thanks to this site was able to adjust my prices, get professional insight, and have always been promptly provided step-by-step technical support. Kudos to IJCSA!
Ok, I would recommend you keep your current or acquire some kind of supplemental income during your start up phase. I did.
I am in a small town so I did the old door to door with card and a flyer. The results are less than satisfying, at first, but give 3-6 months and some calls will start to come in. Those satisfied clients become refferals and after a while you will reap what you sow.
I started my enterprise on aprox. $1000, again, small town.
Just keep up the enthusiasm, the energy will drive you to bigger and better. Although I have spent many a long night on floor care jobs and after 8-10 hrs of fumes I would take a desk job quick.
Good luck, Josh
