I have a small Sears appliance store that I clean once a month, I go in and do a general sweep, mop, and buff. The manager wants me to strip and recoat the floors in April, however there are refridgerators, stoves, washer and dryers on the sales floor that he wants stripped. He suggested moving the appliances as we go or just leave them in place and strip and wax around them. My concern is, will the stripper damage the feet on the apppliances, will it make them rust? If by accident stripper was to get splashed on the paint of the appliances will it take the paint off? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I also have a sears store account. We tell them up front that they are to move everything prior to our arrival. If they want to , we offer a two night service whereas they can move all items to one side each night. We do charge a lot extra for the extra night. Usually about a third of the original cost to do in one night. They have paid us to do it both ways. We do not suggest that you strip around appliances. It can cause rust on the bottoms of legs. It leaves a very ugly mess if appliances are later moved and you have increased chances of causing damage to the appliances. If they insist on leaving them in place then be sure to put on contract that you will not be responsible for any damages or floors underneath appliances. Also charge them even higher than a cleared floor would be , because of having to work around everything and lots more edges to scrape. Perhaps the extra cost will influence them to move the items prior to the strip.
