What is sustainability to the Business?

Had to get up early by an hour today, planned it just to write this post, and it just might get me in trouble. It will get me in trouble with people that don`t see the big picture. It seems a fight is brewing, you can read on business message boards and blogs across the world. Mainly cleaning sites.
The fight is illegal alien company owners, franchise owners, and illegal operators.
You will read: It is so unfair that these people are doing business, and how they took a job from me, ......sniff, sniff, boo hoo
Now if you have done research on our industry you already know and will be further enlightened with this post in a minute. For the whiners, you probably will still be whining. Just get another tissue and wipe the tears from your eyes, blow you nose and pay attention... you just might understand in a minute.
Lets talk numbers first...roughly 18,500 cities just in the US, lets say each city only has 100 cleaning service owners. 1.8M
Did that number just startle you if your a cleaning service owner?
That your roughly 1 out of 2 million? That is just a rough estimate, if I had to guess worldwide all janitorial and cleaning industry fields your about 1 in 40 million.
But to keep the math simple, lets make the number 1 million cleaning services in the US. Now from past posts I made, you might have read, 3 out of 7 fail in this business within the first 30 days. I no longer agree with my statement. The data I see is, and maybe because IJCSA is such a great site and owners do better here. It is more like 1 out of 10 fail to the point that they close down and no longer accept any type of cleaning job whatsoever.
Lets use that. 100,000 service owners go out of business this month.
Guess what happens, 100,000 start a service this month.
The remaining 900 thousand are still doing some cleaning be it steady work or very small jobs. Now out of that, If I had to guess
500 thousand fit into the category, illegal alien company owners, franchise owners, and illegal operators. Or just so your aware...
ROUGHLY HALF OF THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY!!!
So when I get a email: Kevin you need to do something about this unfair advantage these illegal alien company owners, franchise owners, or illegal operators have.
and I REPLY to you: Market, network and advertise your business correctly, and get involved in your community. Make friends with other business owners, get involved in a charity.
then you REPLY that is no help!
and then I REPLY that is the only thing that will do your business any good.

I really mean it! That is the fight you should be getting into. The fight to become a local business superstar. The go to person for your clients when there is a problem, the person honored by other business owners in the the area for helping out a local charity.
Why do I mean it? There is not a single thing you, me or any industry site can ever do to change the above numbers....EVER!
Now, I can be really dishonest and get you pumped up, RA RA RA lets go get em, those dirty rotten illegal alien company owners, franchise owners, or illegal operators. Lets rid the entire world of them! Might even convince you to donate a couple hundred dollars to a government affairs team which will never produce a single result for you losing a contract or account to a lower bidder.
So with all this said, concentrate on your business and not your competition, get involved in something local like a charity which makes you feel good, spend more time with your family. Understand these other business owners are probably similar to yourself and really not dirty rotten scoundrels.
Please though, do not waste your time or mine on something that can not be changed.... EVER!
PS: If your crying because you lost an account, your not managing your accounts correctly, and you really need more accounts.
