How many times do you get a call for an estimate where the person of the household calls asking for a price on windows, and is some what shocked at the price. (I received one today it was a two-story home) 28 panes, inside and out, older non removable panes, so ladder work was required. Gave her an estimate of $65.00, She stated my husband usually does the outside real fast, while I do the inside and probaly wont go for it. I then asked her how they looked after, she said "real good been doing windows for years".. (maybe you know where im going with this) so being the negotiator and in a good mood, I asked her what a fair price would be, what would her and her husband charge to do the same job. She stated about "$25.00 seems fair," So I offered her and her husband a job...lol told them I can keep them busy from dawn to dusk as a subcontactor charging .44 cents a pane. I told her she will have to supply her own insurance, gas, ladders, equipment, chemicals, water, safety training, and pay taxes...etc She then understood.. to make a long story short we received the job. Sometimes telling the customer what is included in the price really helps.

I like to use a little humor with customers, for example ill do commercial or residential sales call ,i always ask what a fair price is, and they give me a price which is 50% too low, ill grab my head and fall off the chair and such.. get the negotiation rolling , I also keep a can of beans in my bag, saying come on and sign the deal or this is what im having for dinner tonight
