Have you had clients try to sneak in extra services in exchange for not cleaning something else? I have had clients leave notes saying "instead of cleaning the basement today or instead of cleaning this room or that room, can you clean the inside refrigerator and oven instead" I clearing state that these services are an additional 25.00 each but they still try to do trade offs. Yes - constantly, even though I use a Service Agreement and a Client Checklist that tells new customers exactly what we do. They also have a Rate Sheet that I gave them when they initiated service that specifies what I charge for extras.
If you're doing the cleaning yourself, you'll need to decide how you want to handle this because some will cancel if you don't do it and others will constantly ask for trades if you do it even once! Can you afford the cancellation?
Once my business was turning a good profit, each team carried the Rate Sheets in their clipboard traveling desk. The Team Leads leave the Rate Sheet with instructions for scheduling the extra work. And the team performs the regular service.

once again... always use a service agreement that states exactly what will be cleaned for a certain price

I know this is an old post but: why not add to the service agreement a similar statement that you see in restaurants, etc. "Substituting services not allowed." Then you can refer to this in the agreement if it's brought up -- it would be harder for them to put up a fuss.

Could someone please explain to me (or have a link or something) as to what a service agreement includes, and why I need to use one?
Because I have already had one of my first clients (the 3,000 s.f. one no less! lol) say one day while I am dusting things on a bookcase "One day we'll skip that and you can help me dust these" these being 3 cases top to bottom of collectable car collections, each shelf full of little nightmare cars!

I get this sometimes from a few of my clients, I do not currently charge extra, sometimes it works in my favor, and as you can imagine sometimes it ends up taking longer especially if it is something that has been neglected for sometime.

If its a even trade I will do it but most the time its not very even.. Like, don't vacuum the kids room today, clean the stove instead.LOL...... If there is any disagreement I will always suggest for them to read the service agreement again.
