My Father worked for a company called the Detroit News, before the company was bought out by Gannett Papers (also owners of USA tToday) My father had this job starting as a paperboy, when he was 11 and worked this job until he retired, (taking a early buyout offered to him), at the time 59 years old district manager, as he feared his retirement would not be available later) 48+ years with the company, 48+ years of service. 48 years of doing the right thing because it was the right thing to do, for the company.
Today and Tomorrow, the Company is your Company! Can you have a employee for 48 years? An employee be and who is committed to doing the right thing, because it`s the right thing to do. Make money for the company, because the company provides well being.
I like to look back at those days, the good old American days when I was younger. When hard work for a company was rewarded with well being, loyalty and security. A company that was there to help and also reward. My Father`s boss was always there for family functions. Birthdays, graduations, weddings. You name it, the company affected every part of our life. Food on the table, school clothes, summer vacations, Christmas.
Where are the companies at today, that are willing to commit themselves to the people they hire.
Where are they?
The answer: It starts with you!
