A cleaning service owner called me.
He`s doing good business, netting roughly 200K a year. For this story we will call him Tom.
Transcript of phone conversation below.
Tom: Kevin, business is not so good. It seems that I lost my motivation. Sales are down about 15%
Kevin: Tom I will gladly help you, first I need a favor. Can you spare one day a week for me for the next 4 weeks, about 4 hours a day. I will cure your symptoms and get you back on track. First though I need some favors.
Tom: I will do whatever you ask. Business is on the way down my family is suffering, we haven`t taken a vacation this summer. The kids and wife are upset, things are really bad.
Kevin Tell me no more Tom, we will get you all fixed up.
Tom: Thank You. What is the favor?
Kevin: Tom, Looking at your city there is a soup kitchen called______ Please go help them, volunteer there for 4 hours this week, have them fax a note to my office that you did so. Then call me next week.
Tom: OK
Kevin: Please do your best to help the customers out, make their day special while your there.
A week later
Tom: Kevin, that was the worst experience ever. Sad actually, so many needy people, some not much older than me. I did as you said, now can we talk about my problems.
Kevin: Not yet Tom, my time and advice is very important. First the 2nd favor.
Tom: OK
Kevin: ] Tom, Looking at your city there is a home for children called______. They help children that are blind. Please go help them, volunteer there for 4 hours this week, have them fax a note to my office that you did so. Then call me next week.
A week later
Tom: Kevin, that was a very sad favor you sent me on. Some of the children there just recently turned blind. I am so grateful my children are ok. Can we move on to my problems yet?
Kevin: Not yet Tom. Tom, Looking at your city there is a Salvation Army. Please go help them, volunteer there for 4 hours this week, have them fax a note to my office that you did so. Then call me next week.
A week later
Tom: Wow, I never knew there was so many people coming to get free food, furniture and clothing. I must have packed a thousand boxes of food over four hours. I am happy we can purchase our own food, clothes and furniture. Now, Kevin can we get to my problems.
Kevin: Not yet Tom, My last favor, in town they have a homeless shelter. I talked to the owners, they can use your help cleaning the place up. They will have everything waiting for you when you arrive. No need to fax the note, I know them, they will tell me how you did. Then call me tomorrow.
Next Day:

(Tom, begins to cry)
helping out and listening. I am very grateful for everything we have. I am very grateful to have a healthy family and a home.
