Ok this question is not concerning a client's floor but the hardwood in my mom's house. We are remodeling the house slowly for her and are on a tight budget.
The hardwood is old, like the house was built in the 40's. It's been covered by carpet for as long as I can remember - 23+ years. The carpet has been ripped up and changed at least twice. We had a cat growing up that decided not to use the litter box and peed in two specific areas of the carpet, over by the front door and in the hallway. When we pulled up the carpet last year, the floor in these areas was the worst. We deck scrubbed them really good and bleached. Ekk!!
So far the floors haven't been touched, but they really don't look all that bad - I think they would be ok with some work.
We are talking living room, dining room, two bedrooms and a hallway - all in a small cape cod style home.
Is this floor something that we can refinished ourselves with less money or should I just hire someone? We got some estimates and they ranged from $600 to $3200 so I dunno what to think! We already have new baseboards just waiting to be nailed to the wall.
Help!

If they have a finish still on the wood , there is a product we use that can be applied that is fairly simple to apply. If it is worn to the wood though it will not work. I think there are some out there , I believe Kevin had also mentioned that may work as well or better. PM me for contact info on the finish I use.
