To all the floor care professionals: We blew up my two speed swing machine today. I am looking for recommendations for a new machine, more all purpose. To be used for smaller strip and finish jobs, possible small carpet jobs, possible concrete polishing in future and stone work. Cimex with planetary head and counterrotating brush heads comes to mind. Any other recommendations. Dan, Charles, Kevin, Wray weigh in here. Bill

Hey Bill I just received a card from Powr-Flite they have a special on there 17" Metal housing Floor Machines for $399.00 USD 1.5 HP 10 year warranty on housing 5 on motor 3 on transmission 1 on parts. Sale ends 6-30-06. I would buy one of these right now but I just put a new transmission in my work van $1800.00 For price I would recommend the powr flite. For multi purpose & performance the cimex it can be used to scrub and polish a wide variety of hard-surface floors & carpets. I think Roto Brush has something also. Hope this helps

Bill, for this all purpose use I would not go any less than 1 and 3/4 horsepower. Especially for the concrete. The machine needs to have power to take off. I remember you mentioning that one of your machines would kick off when using certain carpet bonnets. More horsepower might help on this also. Another thing to remember is that when polishing concrete the machine may have to have weights added to it. You may consider getting a weighted machine now instead of having to buy it when you start concrete polishing.

Sounds like you are looking for an expensive machine. If you are wanting to use it for concrete at some point then you might look at a stone care machine which is really a low speed but like the other gentleman said it uses weights. You might find them as low as $1500. If you are gonna bonnet you will probably want to go with atleast 1 1/2 hp which you will find on most machines. Really you need to stay away from PowrFlite, there machines are made with alot of plastic on them. I repair these machines all the time because of them rolling around in the back of a truck and the handle always seems to break, also you will find that there is not alot of places to warranty those machines. Some of the big players in the industry ie. Advance, Kent, Alto offer a better warranty. Koblenz is a good one that I can think of price wise and money wise. You can get 20" 1 1/2 hp 175 rpm with 3 yr parts and 1yr labor warranty for around $600 - $650
