I have cleaned some schools but not on a regular basis. I know the one thing I did learn , was to expect the unexpected. There is a lot of activities inside a school. They will say nothing is going on and before you know it a herd of people will be walking thru doing some type of activity or class. It also takes a little time if you have to move all the desk to sweep and mop. The kids have a really hard time hitting the mark in the restrooms. Also you should think about having a seperate charge for cleaning up gym after night time sports events. I was also amazed at how many kids actually would voluteer there services to help sweep. Sometimes they would ask for a soda and others would help clean a gym for being able to go into a ball game or event free. just some thoughts.

God help you Brian: Did a private school for one year, things like paper mache dolls all over the place in the art room, paste on floor, one teacher had a field corn sand box in room, music rooms with instruments strewn about, teachers with projects piled in corners and of course why were'nt those corners swept out. Never again, and as Dan says, there is always the problem of moving the desks to do a good job on the floor. Even worse when the kids get to leave their books in the racks under the desk and they spill out when you move them. Oh nightmare.

I recently bid a college & kept project work seperate as well as event cleaning seperate as well.
So did my production rate seem too high.
We did daycare centers for a few years so we are used to some problems that you listed.
Doing the school would be such a nice boost for bidding in this city, being able to have them as a reference ya know?
Any detailed feedback would be great, I will submit bid soon.

Brian: We've only had 2 schools under contract and we started with newly trained people but remembering the number of desks to be moved and all the paraphenalia, I think 5000 sq.ft. per hour is pretty optimistic. Of course , I'm assuming a relatively general list of specs for the rooms.

Late jumping on this one...we do schools and love it...as mentioned expect the unexpected and allow a bit of extra time when you quote. In halton region of Ontario Canada, I'll take them if no one wants them. Graham

Brian,
So what was your final bid? Did you get the account? How is it going?
Currently I'm getting ready for a walkthrough at a private Catholic School.
I'll let you know how it goes for me.
Have a great one!
