I am going to have to agree with Bill, Be confident and sell the quality of work that you do, there will always be lowballers out there that will sell a job only on price. You cannot compete if you only sell price. Keep the confidence Linda, and choose only the jobs that give you a fair return for your efforts. They will come.
I have felt the same way..it comes in waves of doubt is what i call it ....but stand true to how you clean and build your business on the reputation of a "GREAT" service. Do not comprise your values..if you do not see the vaule in your work then lower your prices, if you do see it then stay the course and you will be able to select the clients you want to work with.
Recently a wise woman told me that you have to be able to identify your ideal client. For me the ideal client is: One that vaules hardwork, cause that's what we do! One that has a strong work ethic..(successful professionals),. One that is trustworthy...pays ontime and keeps appointments. One that appreicates your extra efforts and refers you to others.
As for working for free- a discount yes but free NO WAY....

I advertise on Craigslist & get alot of calls & emails daily! Not all turn into clients but I am a individual cleaner & only need a few more clients to be making good money to live. I also started adding more services to my cleaning.Organizing, Painting, Packing-Unpacking, Errands.
I get more responses from all my different ads & am able to pick up a Organizing job or Painting job & charge more. I see alot of cleaners advertising on Craigslist too.
There will be a huge turn over cause no one can live on the low wages some of these people are charging. They will have to get a job by being forced out of business because they don't make enough to live & don't get benefits either!
Alot more people are going into housecleaning but it takes a certain entrepreneur & worker to stay in the business. The high quality dedicated ones will prevail!!!!
Market your business every Day - everywhere!!!
