I did a new client today whose small one bedroom & one bathrm
(no tub, just shower) looked quite clean when I first saw it yesterday.
He was very neat but said the apt hadn't been cleaned in 5 weeks.
I gave him a price of $75 for two hours of work & if it went past that it would be $25 hr. To my surprise the nice, neat apt was extremely dusty! I asked him if he had a pet cause I was sweeping up some hefty grey clumps of dust everywhere!
There was no pet. He also started to check the areas I already cleaned with a clean paper towel. There was more dust after I cleaned! Which happens with something that built up unless it's cleaned maybe 3 times to get it to a maintenence level.
I was trying to clean everything quickly so he would have a somewhat clean place- not perfect because he was only paying for two hours of work.
I did baseboards, sills, dust ,washed floors, top of fridge etc. Pretty much all you would do on a first time major clean which would take 3-4 hours.
He said I didn't clean areas that I just cleaned & were really dusty.
I told him they would need to be done a few times to get them really perfect but he thought they should be perfect after one wipe. I went back into alot of the areas I just did so they were wiped 3 times. I told him I was getting more dirt also from areas I just cleaned.
How do you price these first time small apt to get them up to some standard unless you do clean floors & baseboards a few times on the first clean?
Do I tell them it won't be perfect first time or just charge for a 3-4 hour job?
I was thinking of writing a newsletter & printing it to give to clients explaining all about cleaning & why it costs what it does.
Thanks
Doreen
