I attended my first training camp this weekend. It was ran by Ken Macleod and Rowden Fullen and Adam Prozko. I had only heard of Rowden before attending the camp - I believe he is highly respected coach in the UK and has his own coaching website/blog.
If any of the UK people on this forum could enlighten me as to the above 3 coaches would be appreciated. I believe Ken coaches in Italy now and Adam is a former professional player (Poland).
Anyway, I just thought I would share some of of my comments and things I learnt, for discussion.
One of the main things that stuck in my head was a comment by Rowden about how the half long serve is pretty much useless at pro level as they will just attack it. I always thought half length, if perfected (2nd bounce on the white line) was the holy grail, but Rowden seemed to say at pro level really you need the length to half long but with the third bounce on the white line to ensure it can't be attacked (obv. needs to be low etc).
Overall with the camp I had mixed opinions but I did really enjoy it. I felt the focus was on all the young superstar kids and me and my team (despite being the best players there) weren't attended to as much. I was only really attended to when I asked questions. I was disappointed that there weren't better players there.
However, I learnt alot and was particularly impressed with the way Rowden breaks the game down. He was very particular at making comparisons between gender and with what works at different levels (he talks alot about differences in gender on his website). The general overall style of the coaches also was that they encouraged experimentation, creativity and that there is 'no single correct way', which I liked. I also learnt some new drills and certainly have come away with lots of new ways of thinking. So I think it was definitely worth attending the camp, it was good fun too! Sports Clothing
