This is best when you use a Rotovac or Cimex. Just like at Carpetbuyers handbook says the old days dont have an extractor. Still most Carpet manufacturers insist on Hot Steam Extraction mostly on Residentials which has Synthetic Fibers and Some commercial. But Personally I do not recommend Chem-Dry.

WE Do.
Well we did up until this year. We have been doing encapsulation. I will still do this on very heavy soiled carpets, unless we sub em out to a truck mount crew

Yup Chem-dry does use bonnets with carbonated water. We bonnet from time to time as an interim cleaning method but we mostly encap now.

I never tried bonnet. I watch somebody do it before. I always wondered where the dirt go's, since there is no extraction to suck it up, or encap to capture the dirt to vacuum up. I know some of it sticks to the bonnet pads, put would it capture all of it.

I also use a Rotovac. As for Chem Dry they are starting to use RX-20's with modified slides and blocked off jets.

With the right technique you can do a fantastic job with a rotary, I no longer offer steam cleaning, I use a rotary or an orbital pad machine.
You need a cleaning agent that either dries brittle/crystal or one that rinses easy, it's important that it doesn't leave a soil attracting residue, I'm using a new product called SnapEncap.
When using a rotary, I vacuum, pretreat the carpet and scrub with a synthetic pad or brush and then follow with a cotton terri pad and groom.

We have had good results with pre treat, bonnett with swing machine and then extract with rinse water. Seems to do a good job. Have wanted to try encap but am having difficulty finding a good encap cleaner, one that will leave nice crystals , not tacky, after drying on a piece of cardboard. Any suggestions for availability in Ontario.
