Over the years I have not had many request for Drapes to be cleaned therefore I never pursued that business. Today I was asked by a home interior ?decorator store if I could clean their customers drapes in place. I have asked other cleaners before how they do it. I have been told ; 1.) Just mist with water and suck off. 2.) Spray aerosol solvent on and vacuum off. 3.) One company even told me to just vacuum off and charge .75 a pleat. I don't think so..4. and one supplier said I needed specialized equipment designed for dry cleaning. Do any of you clean drapes in place? How? What kind of charge? thanks

Dan,
Ours too dont have a lot of Calls for Drapes & Curtain Cleanings. We charge a $ 75.00 for Complete Drape & Curtain Set. $25.00 for Drapes Only per Window. If they Wanted it Scotch Guarded $ 125.00.
Things needed are a Portable Machine with Upholstery Tool, An Upholstery Soft Brush, Kleenrite Dry Solvent,Clean White Rag,Spray Bottle,(Kleenrite Dry Fabric Protector if Needed)
1.Set the Portable Machine To just Vacuum.
2.Brush the Drapes & Curtains before Applying the Dry Solvent to remove Dust and other Particles so as not to have a Sticky Residue of Dust& Solvent.
3.Apply Dry Solvent (sufficient amount)in Mist then Wipe with White Clean Rag in One Direction before Vacuuming.
4.Vacuum Thorughly.

Thanks, This advice sounds excellent. What if you run into spots that need to have something like protein spotter used on it. Is it OK to extract those spots with hot water extraction? Is there any type of materials used that would take a different approach?

Most Drape and Curtain Fabrics are very Delicate. So as a not to ruin the Fabrics Use a Low Ph Upholstery Spotter or An Area Rug Spotter Cleaner. Apply an Anti-Color Bleeding Chem First to a rag and Wipe it. Let it Dry for a Few minutes for the Fabric to absorb. Then With just a Right Amount put it also on a white Clean rag or towel and wipe it in a up and down direction. Dont use Water Extraction. See dilution procedures of Chemicals and test it on a small area first.
