From my experience door knocking does not really pay. I knocked doors for 2 days solid a couple of years ago ,and only got one account out of it.
It was an awful time ,with all them knock backs,I found that most people already have a window cleaner or they do not want one.
I bought my work ,it was already established for 20 years ,so it was a good base to expand from and have picked up most of my new work from recommendations. hope this helps ,
Dave

Door knocking is great also heres a tip I shouldn't be telling you I do mostly construction clean-up and we get customers by placing a post card in the new home or building right before its ready to be cleaned the trick is to place it twice on the front door and then on a fire place or focal point in the main room. Thats when their ready to hire some one. Commercial the same way look for the new owner to move in, they always call for a bid. Either to do a one time clean or start a full time account. Try it and you wont go wrong

Good information, heres a good secret one also.. call, email or fax all the local construction firms in your area, make them a subcontractor to do requested work if needed by your customers, in return they give you the address of projects there working on? At the same time talk to them about being a subcontractor for them, doing the cleaning of such properties.

When I got into the window cleaning business, it happened overnight. I had a couple of accounts and then God blasted open the door. God is the key.... When I trusted in God everything took off. Two weeks I had 15 account from a big chain pharmacy store. Then it just kept growing. For us we only do commerical accounts and walking the streets paid off really awesome for us. We made the efforts and God blessed our company.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.
May the Lord bless you all.

Thanks, Joseph for the inspirational thoughts. Do you charge by the side? Does the size make any difference? I usually charge by the side but have thought about charging by the square feet since there are so many different size windows. It is just a thought I have been throwing around in my head. Do any of you charge by the sq ft? If so how is it working for you? Door Knocking definitely works for me in the window cleaning area. thanks , Dan
