John & I are both 100% working at/on Crowz Cleaning. Neither of us have had to get outside jobs yet because we had some savings, a small inheritance, and large insurance settlement in 2004/2005 to keep us going and help build the business. My son is totally behind us as are all our friends. My dad was very doubtful of our success at first, but now is behind us all the way. He wanted us to buy an established business as he struggled with his own company, Excalibur Mfg., for years until he made his first dollar. My mom is neutral. John's mom is right there in support of Crowz. His dad is not only negative about it, but actually tries to sabotage us at every opportunity. Sad, but true I don't think he does it consciously. I believe he is jealous of his sons success. Oh well. I'd say we have a pretty good family & friend support system! Natalie

I don't have much family close, but those that are indeed are supportive. So supportive in fact, they want jobs with it. Very delicately, I explained that it might be best to actually get a paying customer first.
Of my friends, one named Jeff is very supportive and encouraging, extremely so. Another friend however, I refrain from discussing much with him as he's rather negative and sometimes belittling. I don't need that right now.
It's like if he won Powerball, there would be no end to the griping and moaning over the taxes he would have to pay. For him, every day begins with a new dawn that threatens skin cancer from UV exposure. The day ends with the onslaught of criminal activity in the neighborhood as darkness approaches. The high heating bills from the cold of winter give way to the allergy season of spring. Then follows the high air conditioning bills of summer. Mold and pollen then take over in the fall along with the raking of leaves. Thus is the dreary cycle of our existence in this valley of tears.
Writing that paragraph, I realized something -- I need to fix him up with my sister. They're two peas in the proverbial pod.
Other relationships, such as the couple who manages the property where I live, are are not only supportive, but have offered their expertise from their experience starting a business. At one time they owned a carpet cleaning company! Michael has even offered to work with me on jobs as a coach. :-)
Cheers,
John

My wife and I are both in this together. She is very supportive. My children even help with door hangers. my wife is my secretary and cheerleader! My two sons help me cover more ground, they do door hanging and I do knocking on doors and passing out flyers. I do telemarketing and my wife is the "live" voice when customer's call. My wife is a little nervous as its hard since we are in the very beginning stages of starting out. My immediate family is behind me 110%. My extenedned family is not too entusiastic, but thats how it's always been. In the long run I hope to have a truly family owned and operated business!
