What training systems do you have in place?
What material do you use, written, video, combo?
On average how much time do you spend training a new cleaner? Is it sufficient?
Do you utilize job cards?
I have heard that the two areas that lack the most today in janitorial operations are training, and quality monitoring, what are your thoughts?

Well i will agree, training & monitoring quality are where alot of services seem to drop the ball.
We are currently using Butchers Building Blocks for training. No video. We use nightly check off lists. I am considering having them faxed into the office nightly as well.
Inspections run on a schedule. We train for 2-3 days on ave.
I would love to have something on our website like a video that an employee can watch from home.

I have heard good things about the Butchers programs. Do you buy them online? If so where?

Our Butchers rep likes to push Betco products. While I do like Betco cleaning products their training material is a little too pricey for me. Thats whey I was trying to locate it on the net. How much were your Butchers training material?

C we are set on the products for the daycare. We use morning mist, raindance, look, & bathmate.
they seem to past the test with the centers & our medical buildings.

I was training employees this week, I go over the whole building lay out with them, then have and employee train them for 4 days, using a check off list. then I work with them for another 5-6 days. constantly going over the to do list, post them in ever locker. go over the chemical usage. takes about 2 weeks for everything, if they don't get it by then, there history. thats what I been doing all this week, been setting up an account and training.

it takes awhile for example the one thats being trained now its for mon - friday 5 hours per day. its just one account but theres alot to remember, I also train them in there native langauge if they speak spanish mostly, then there trained in spanish, if there main language is portoguesse then there trained in portoguesse. it makes it easer for them. plus it leaves no excuses about anything, everything in writting, is in english and there native language. we start off with 3 paople one is training them, then after 1 week, that person is pulled out, then its me and the person, then after another week I pull out and its just them, I check on them or have somebody check them once a day. here is what they have to remember, its in english. plus its posted in all the lockers so they can read it, to double check themselves, so nothing is forgotten. all they have to do is look under the day.

Thank you Christy, you know even with all that, some still manage to screw up. what kills me is, every account is set up by section, each section has its own equipment and cleaning material, and cart. some a big locker 6 by 4 with everything in it, most a janitor closet. on the doors is everything that needs to be done for that section, all in exact order of the most easiest possible way of doing it, its supposed to be fool proof. you check it before starting, and check it when finish. if everything on list is done then there done. all chemicals are clearly marked, what they are, and what there for. and I always give extra time, more than is really needed. sometimes they will still find some way of screwing up. or ask the most dumbest question, like do I vacuum? or the most famous one, they unlock a office door instead of putting the key back in there pocket, they toss it on the desk, then lock the door w/the keys in there, but then I have some I never have to check the account, never even hear from them, till payday. those kind of employees are very hard to find. those you have to seek out, because they always have a job. some ways to find some good employees, are at retail stores or coffee shops like dunkins, starbucks, sandwich shop, like D,Angelo's,etc. they pay around the same as cleaning services. some times I will watch the employee where I'm at, this way you get to see them in action, how they treat the customer, there appearance on there job, how well they handle themselves, etc, etc. you get to see them when there guard is down. if they really seem to be a good employee, I will come back to that place a few more times, get a conversation going, joke a bit with them. then I ask how they like there job, and so forth. then if they seem to have a good attitude and have a good head on there shoulder, I will give them my business card, tell them what I pay, and what hours I'm looking to fill in. and about the job. had a lot of times I got some really good employees that way. they would call a few weeks later and say they would like a job. and you actually seen them in action on a job, before you even hired them.
