You ever hear the phrase don't marry a cop, well when you start your janitorial service, more than likely the hours will be worst, and for years to come the jobs and hours you will have to take to keep yourself afloat will be awkward. I remember to this day one of the first 7 night cleaning night accounts I had was from 12-4 A.M. a restaurant. I did this and then went out to do window washing and residential cleaning starting at 8A.M. I usually slept from 5pm till 10pm, then again from 430am-7am. This lasted roughly 7 months, till I had a couple of other accounts, and could afford to pay someone (but only for 2 nights) Fri-Sat. I think I recall this was for about the first two years. So remember when starting be prepared for jobs and awkward hours. If you plan on only doing residential for a while, you will keep pretty much 9-5 cleaning, and after hours doing paperwork, promotions and misc office work. " A wise man told me once . Own you own business, its great! You get half days, every day.... Y ou can pick the first 12 hours or the last 12 hours " Whats you work schedule like?

Our work schedule is crazy. We kind of sleep when we get the time. I am constantly working on something to clean or learning how to clean something else or fixing something or buying something or keeping up the books. The business pretty much consumes the majority of my time in some way or another. I know that is the price I have to pay to get it off the ground though.
Just when I thought I had employees trained and ready to take over my weekend cleaning work, well they are no longer employees. At least I had one weekend that I didn't have anything to clean. So the hiring and training process will start over now. It seems just when you think you have things under control another surge of new clients call and we are scrambling to make sure everyone stays happy.
Even with all of that, I feel blessed to be gaining new business and have a great start on making a successful business where I can help other people. So many businesses fail. Part of that is because some people are unwilling to do the hard work involved in building a business. It doesn't happen overnight and without a lot of work.
