Well its a known fact through our industry that several new services will not make it. I think the ratio at last check was 3 out of 5 fail. So I created this thread so you can hear form some services that have not failed, what they suggest you do, and what they suggest is an absolute clincher. You should not attempt the business if?

Ill start if you are a 9-5 type of person, Janitorial is not for you, maybe residential, Many janitorial contracts and jobs are always late at night, and into the early morning. Also if you can not budget money well, this is not your line of business.

Don't go crazy right off the bat with advertising and local associations. I have seen companies join the chamber of commerce, the BBB, and others, and have big ads in the different yellow pages all in their first year. Next year there name is usually gone from the yellow pages. Pick you advertising wisely and where you want to spend your money until you are established.

If you are starting a new janitorial firm then try subcontracting from bigger operations untill you get a good client list going. They are the ones who will pay you on time too cause they have been where you are!
