Service Vendor's License

I'm still trying to get my basics under control. I live in Ohio, and according to the state's small business administration I need a service vendor's license. Hmm...Does this mean I need to tax my clients? Or is it included? Do I have to charge tax? Does anyone else charge tax for cleaning? I clean mostly residential, but I do have a few commercial jobs. I would appreciate any feedback!

I know in my town had to go to my county courthouse and applied for license and number is your ssn.

I have a transient license. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I can use this one in any county in Ohio. That is what I applied for anyway and that is what they told me I needed. I have not been charging a tax, but I am going to start. I have not called the state yet, but I am being told I have to pay a 7% sales tax even if I don't charge one. I am going to try and call now actually :-)

Thanks Linda, yeah let us know. A transient license, huh. I just don't know. My sister in law has been cleaning for 2 years and she has no license and does not deal with any sales tax. She's not in prison yet. LOL
Why is this information so hard to find out. It seems like everyone you talk to has something different to say. People are always including "licensed" as part of their qualifications, but I am not licensed and according to the secretary of state website - it says i don't need one.

you don't have to have a transient licence to operate in any county in maine. how much does it cost? i can operate in any part of the state just not across border lines. i don't know exactly what you need to operate in different states other than the one you reside in. VERY INTERESTING.

A County Vendors License is for each person with a fixed place of
business in Ohio from which taxable sales are made. Vendors must have
one license for each fixed place of business. The County Auditors
office
issues the license. The application fee is $25.00 and the application
is Form ST-1.

A Transient Vendors License is for a retailer who transports stock(s)
of
goods to temporary places of business in order to make sales. The
license is valid throughout the state. The application fee is $25.00
and the application is Form ST1-T.

A Delivery Vendors License is for a retailer who maintains no store,
showroom, or similar place of business where merchandise is offered for
sale, or who has no location where merchandise displayed in catalogs
may
be selected or picked up by customers. The application fee is $25.00
and the application is Form ST1-D.

A Service Vendors License is for a person or business that provides
automatic data processing, computer services and electronic information
services; telecommunications service; lawn care and landscaping
services; private investigation, security services, building
maintenance
and janitorial services, employment placing services, employment
services and exterminating services. The license is valid through the
state. The application fee is $25.00 and the application is Form
ST1-S.

Our county requires no licensure, at all, for anything..... but if you want to do any business in the City of Kingman, you must have City Licensure. We hold a Janitorial license that cost $78.00 a year because our physical location is in Mohave County ordinance. Same license is $20.00 if physical location is inside city limits, no matter where your customers are. We collect and pay no tax. Only taxes are on wages and file a 1040 to feds on income.

Our first year in business we were a sole proprietor (actually a partnership, but since we are married it really makes no difference) so no reason to file any other way than 1040. We have only been in business a year so this will be our first filing and I am not sure how. One of our clients is an investment company and they will be doing our taxes more than likely. We will have to pay state income tax like anyone else I'm sure.

Man, I'm getting a headache just thinking about tax season!
