I was just wondering how important the name of your company is when attracting customers. I wanted to use something like Sunny Cleaning Co. but don't want to sound unprofessional. I can always use my name I guess but was looking for something a little more creative. Advise anyone? ;D

Well lots of things to consider, first you could be stuck with it the rest of your life, then your heirs life. You also want to get good search rankings for a webpage and also yellow page listings (basic). I have posted before if I had a chance to do it over I would have chosen a name with Detroit in it. A very important decision to make. Always choose a couple names your comftorable with as it might already be taken. Another good point taken from Hollywood is that movie names are decided after they get a domain name. I would also suggest this process. See if your domain name is available first then get your DBA. Heres a good thread and hopefully more information to follow. usacleaning.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=Starting&action=display&thread=1122435818

That is great Advice! I never even thought of putting the name of the town in it. I am in Shiawasee county, so I was thinking of using that. I live in a small town called Durand so, I am not sure how great that would work. I dont want to limit my services in my name either, so would you suggest complete ceaning services?

I got a call Saturday from a gentleman who wanted carpet cleaned this week end. I was already covered up and asked if he had tried any of the other carpet cleaners. 13 in total. He said no , he called us first because of our name. He said it sounded like we offered a better way of cleaning. Just from our name. I did tell him we do. We offer much more than our competition. I gave him name of another cleaning service that often gives me work and he got him to come clean his carpet. Our name Enviro Stat evidently sounds like a franchise name. We get asked that often. We clean the environment which client is and we get there stat (as soon as possible). We also use chemicals that limit and control bacterial and such which also is reflected in the name stat. In our local phone book the small one lines start with A and on to Z. But the main adds, 2" to whole page are placed by size , starting from biggest to smallest. So in that area it is not the name that places you first , it is the amount of money you pay. With all that said , I don't believe Enviro Stat is very good name when it comes to the search engines used by people looking for a cleaning company. Although Enviro Stat is our business name , we always add Professional Cleaning Service in all our advertising and headings.

This is so true. I wish I would have named my company something else. Now I am just stuck with it. One of the most important things when starting your new company is choosing the right name. Patti

Thanks you guys! Did any of you sit down and write a buisness plan before you started, because I have looked at a few templates and they confuse the heck out of me. I have a two year degree so I don't consider myself totally stupid!

If you have plans to operate in multiple locations maybe you don't want to name a city or state.

Is that a bad thing? Business plans sound good in thought, but I have seen examples too and it was way more than I was willing to sit down and write/type out. I can't stand having to sit and make things up when I have the idea in my head. I just want to get out there and do it.

How about? National Services, Federated Janitorial.. Thinking more about names some of the larger companies.. If you heard Home Depot, Taco Bell, Microsoft, or maybe janitorial Jani-King, Coverall, ABM would you think back then these companies are going to become monster corporations. Maybe its not in the name, but how you represent the name?

I am the same way! I have ADD I try to use it to my advantage though! We have creative minds! I find I have to make myself sit there and put it down on paper sometimes, to give me a better perspective.
