What does everyone do for health insuranced? I'm chicken to quit my full-time job and jump into this because of the benefits. Is this the right forum? Anyone with answers or ideas?

I just started my cleaning business around August, September. I can not afford to just up and quit my night job. If you are not financially able to quit then I wouldn't. I don't have health insurance, but even if I did I still couldn't quit. Decide first where you stand financially then go from there. I can not help you with the insurance part, could use some advice on that one myself :-)

As a Board Member, this is one of the directions I'd like to see if we can take the IJCSA. Possibly, and I say possibly, because I know little about the process or the potential, but possibly, if we could get enough folks on board...we might be able to pool, or get into a pool, to be able to offer some type of insurance package to be vended to IJCSA member companies?
I don't know all the ins and outs, in fact I know very little about it. But with the IJCSA growing as it is, and with it's national and international scope, it certainly would be an idea worth at least doing preliminary investigation. If the results are not feasible, at least maybe finding out what direction we'd have to head, what numbers we'd have to obtain, etc., would be something to work with.
Thoughts? Ideas? Input?

Health Insurance for the self employed is very expensive. I have to pay for everything out of pocket. Just to insure myself would cost around 350.00 and up per month. My doctors visits alone are 100.00 just for the office visit, so I don't go too often. Believe me I have called every insurance company I could find to get a quote for myself. Either the monthly payments are so high you can't afford it or if you get the payment down to an affordable rate then you have a 5,000-10,000 deductible. Patti

Afternoon everyone: Little different in Ontario, however, the government has been cutting back on the things coverred under the government OHIP plan. We have looked into a couple of plans to supplement, one being the chamber of Commerce group plan. That may be available to any and all of you who are members of the local Chamber of Commerce. We also looked into a plan put out by a rather large insurance company, and it was relatively affordable. For one individual, with dental and prescriptions etc. it cost around $85.00 per month. Bear in mind , this was supplementing the government plan I believe. I have checked into group plans to offer employees and myself, basic plan was around $700.00 to $800.00 Cdn. per month. through private insurer. I recommend looking into the Chamber of Commerce at this point in time.

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I'll look into a few more things - and, no, I won't quit my other job just yet. I like this forum...it's professional and intelligent. Thanks again - Juaquinblue

THAT WOULD BE GREAT TO GET ENOUGH MEMBERS TO FORM A LARGE ENOUGH GROUP TO FIND A AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE COVERAGE PLAN.

THAT WOULD BE GREAT TO GET ENOUGH MEMBERS TO FORM A LARGE ENOUGH GROUP TO FIND A AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE COVERAGE PLAN. I know BCBS has some affordable coverage... or is supposed to anyways. I was quoted around ~$120-180/month by the same insurance agency that quoted me for business insurance. It all depends on what you want.

Affordable health insurance is an oxy moron; those words just do not go together. Having been licensed in life, health, and securties investment, I do know a few things about this subject. Group health is less expense and has better benefits than individual policies since the insurance company is able to spread their risk over a large universe of employees. That's why even a group health plan through an association of this type my offer a better price point and benefits. Typically, age, current health, and sex( male or female and not how often you have it ;D) factors into individual policies. Here is what I suggest. Since it is called major medical then that is what you should protect against, thus I would get a policy with $5000 to $10,000 dollar deductible. Your concern is to protect against health issues that can wipe you out financially and do not try to cover costs of visiting a doctor. In conjunction, I would purchase this policy and establish a HSA ( health savings account). The hsa account allows you to deposit money into an investment of your choice where it grows tax deferred. You have a check book to use to pay for health costs, such as, doctor visits, medinice, etc.-- There is no requirement to make systematic deposits but there is generally a upper limit on the amount you can place into the account each year. Finally, the health insurance you purchase as an owner is in most all cases fully tax deductible. Finally, most large corporations are self insured. What this means is that they are willing and able to pay the medical expenses of employees up to some predetermined amount, such as, $50,000 dollars per employee. They then purchase a policy from an insurance company to cover losses in excess of the $50, 000 per employee.
