It's tough. I got my first contract by cold calling. I put together a nice proposal then hit the pavement. I got a lot of no's but just stuck with it. I can't wait to hear what advise you get. I could use some too. Also, I get alto of refferals. It doesn't hurt to know someone. Why don't you try your own bank? Good Luck, Leslie www.BioRecoverySolutions.com

Some hints for you, cold calling is a necessary evil in any sales position, I hate it , I will always hate it but it is a necessary evil. Third party referrals are the best because the sale is almost made before you show up. In Ontario, you can go online for most purchasing departments for municipalities and see if there are any tenders. Be prepared , if you are new to the business this is not an area you want to attack, high liability costs, non performance deposits, etc. etc. etc.. Speak with any and all of your friends, advise them you are in business and any referrals are appreciated. Your neighbours insurance agent 's office, your doctor's office, your dentist's office, your mechanics front showroom, etc. etc. etc. Hit them all and let them know you are in business. If they can't afford you, perhaps they know someone who can. These are just a couple of ideas.

Hi, Every one, I am new and looking for some friends. I also am going to start hiring a partime employee, and I am very nervous about this. I need to advertise more first, then put an ad in local paper. Also, want to advertise on the web, I think that may be a good idea, I want to have a website. What do you think?

I want to have a website. What do you think? I think it's a great idea....most of my business comes from my website. I'm also a member of several free local forums that let you post your business info in your siggy....and I've gotten many jobs from that as well.

Just thought I'd give a little friendly advice to newcomers to the cleaning business. Contracted accounts aren't always so great. You are competing against 3 or more bidders, many of which are underpricing the job. Many times they are large cleaning companies willing to work for a very low profit margin. If you contact a company which wants you to bid then go for it! I find it much easier to get customers which don't bid. Tell your prospects that you refuse to sign contracts! You'd rather work day to day for your business and continuously prove how good you are with no contract to fall back on. This will impress any customer! Besides, if you enter a contract and they are not happy, there are ways to cancel it within 30 days anyway. Good luck. Peter Total Maintenance Services of N.J.
