Hello everyone, I am still looking for liability insurance. The best quote I have is $800 for one year up front. Two employees including myself. Is that in the ball park? I have no idea. The bonding is only $170. Anyone have any suggestions or is that about what I should expect? Thanks for the in-put..

Well, I'm in Canada so I'm not sure if that price is good or not What I can suggest is to take the quote you received (make sure it contains all the information) and take it too another insurance agent. Show him what you have and if he can beat it.

Thank you for your reply. I do have the written quote and I think it is a good idea to take it to another agent. It seemed that the first agent I went to didn't think it was worth the effort. Thanks again.

That's the same thing I ran into. Most agents, as soon as they here we are a brand new small business especially a cleaning one, want nothing to do with us. My first quote was somewhere around $12,000 per year! I told him I might as well close before I open with that price... Just keep shopping around, you might get something better, you might not. But it doesn't hurt to try... Check out this thread that I started about my quest for insurance. usacleaning.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=Commercial&action=display&thread=1156405205

wow, i think i pay around $6000 per year for insurance and that includes
a million dollars general liability for buildings that we clean workers comp for 12 employees including 2 owners liability insurance for my store front full coverage insurance for 2 vehicles and a rider for the lift on one vehicle plus any equiptment hauled around in both of them up to 20,000 each vehicle just liability insurance on another vehicle
and I got bonded for $25,000 for 12 employees plus 2 owners for around $270
i go through american family insurance, my agent is the same agent that i have had since i started driving though. I did check around though and he was the best deal/most helpful agent that i found.

I finally found the one reasonable cost general liability insurance after searching 9 insurances in month. For million dollar, $1,000 a year was the cheapest one I found until today. Cynthia from A and H insurance called me that one insurance offered me $500 a year. If anyone interested in getting reasonable general liability call Cynthia (702) 947 3871 x 271

American Family Insurance is the worst company in the world! Stay away! They will leave you hanging when you need them most, WHEN YOU HAVE A CLAIM. I know, I'm dealing with them right now.

Can you still own a cleaning business without the insurance? Or is it a must?

I think you need to ask yourself why you wouldnt want insurance to protect your cleaning buisness? It is not a must, but a smart choice.Almost all commercial establishments will ask for your insurance information also. No insurance, no contract.

So after reading this thread and dealing with a couple insurance brokers. This is my experience...the quotes seem to take up to a week to get. The first one came in around $15k with the broker saying, "New Venture's are very hard to place in this class of business. What have you budgeted for insurance?" nothing worse than feeling like you are trying to be played. So after telling him my resources say as low as $500 he returned a couple days later with just under $1000 for 2 employees $1 mil. liab. Since this thread was started in 2006 does just under $1000 sound reasonable for the NY area? or any area for that matter? Then I 'll still need to get bonded. Thanks.

I just got my quote for Liability Ins. for 4 employees and me if $1,400 / year. It is cheaper than last year about $300-$400. And the worker comp rate is also lower.
