Hi, I have my first employee. She's been with me for about 2and 1/2 months. I like her. She's a good, honest worker and really loves her job with me. Problem is, she is sick alot. Probably has missed at least 10 days since she has started. When she calls me, she is REALLY TRULY sick. She may have some health issues, I don't know. Everyone tells me to let her go. I've talked to her and she knows that her sick time is a big problem and says she will try to just tough it out. I'm thinking on taking away one day a week and let someone else I know work with me to train so as to be a back up. This would give her a 4 day work week instead of 5. This other person just wants to be a fill in anyway. What would you do? Thanks!

If you think have a great horse that can run the track, but it can only now and then run the race. That horse ain`t so great.
Do you have a developed sick day policy?

Tough decision. It's hard enough to find someone you can trust and that you want to work for you, represent you. But if you are spending all your time filling in for her, at some point you are working harder than if you hadn't hired someone at all. If you don't already have a sick day policy, implement one and make sure she understands it. Have her sign a copy of the policy and stick to it. You worked hard to start and run this business and you deserve someone who is going to work just as hard for you. Just my ramblings. Mike
