IM A 26 YEAR OLD SINGLE MOM LOOKING TO START MY OWN JANITORAL SERVICE BY 2009. WHAT ARE THE FIRST STEPS TO STARTING A JANITORAL SERVICE? I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS BUT I'M SERIOUS NOW. I HAVE A 9-5 BUT IM LOOKING TO EARN EXTRA MONEY AFTER WORK AND ON THE WEEKENDS.

That is good that you are giving yourself time to reach your goal of opening your own business. You have a year, so read, read and read.
There is tons of information on starting up all over this forum, all over the web and written in books. Read about starting a business, advertising dos and don'ts and more. Check out books on janitorial, cleaning techniques, and read about running a business in general.
You may want to draw up a business plan. SCORE is a wealth of information and they provide it all for free! So check out your local SCORE office.

Dan Aslett is a great informer of books, he can be found at Barnes and Noble. I think it is great your planning your business and leaping into it. Remember, they say the first 2 years of business are the hardest. Proof, look at last years yellow pages and this years see the difference in cleaning listings. You can do it, just keep positive and good luck to you
