I was offered an industrial job on a salary pay, but I would have to pay my own sales tax. The lady will keep everything else under her as in, Insurance, Work Comp. Heres the situation....
35 hours wkly nite shift 30 hours wkly day shift salary - $1500.00 bi-wkly
Lets say her pay is $16.50 pmh, she buys her own cleaning supplies except when doing floors (strip/finish). I offered to take the job as a sub contractor under her and she doesn't want to do that. Now the way im figuring this I would be making $11.50 and hour at $1500.00 bi-wkly. She would be GONE, I would take care of EVERYTHING and I would be working all the hours or bring in someone on my own to help me. Would this be a good deal at $13.00 pmh and I pay my own sales tax? I dont think $11.50 is catching my interest. Any advice to make this work for me??
Thanks, Linda

are you saying you are going to work 65 hours a week for $11.53 an hour and pay your own taxes. I can't see how this is good. if she does not want you as a sub-contractor or contractor. then you are an employee who pay's there own taxes. for one I think this is illegal. I think the ladie is trying to hustle you. she doesn't want you as a contractor, but she does not want to pay taxes either. so she figures she hire you as an employee who pays there own taxes, BUT your an employee in her eyes, till its time for taxes. then she 1099 you, and claim you as a contractor. sounds screwed up to me. sorry linda I would run from it. if your having bad finacial problems, then you might want to consider it. but if your business is doing okay, don't touch it.

My thoughts exactly. I tried to get her to contract it out to me, but she doesnt want to give it up in any way. Do you think it would be worth it if I contract it out under her for $14.00 and hour and pay my own taxes, do this as a sub under her? I am trying to figure out how I can make this work to my advantage since she doesnt want to let it go completely. I dont think she realizes I know what I would be making. To her it is double my pay, to me it is a rip off. Im already doing the job, but I want the account. If I cant get the account for a decent pay then Im not going to stay. That job is not worth it to me. Alot of crap to put up with and some really gross times. The place is so cluttered everywhere it makes my job hard anyway. I know they will not pay more then what they are already giving her. I made them one heck of an offer and they let her renew her contract anyway and im the one doing most of the job, day and nite. Alot of double shifts for me. She knows im not going to stay once I have enough accounts to walk away so shes trying to make me think im making alot more money, but I know im not. I make $10.00 hr. now. $11.50 should be my raise in my opinion. No holiday, no vacation. Been there over 2 years. I am there more then she is now no medical, no dental, no nothing, just $10.00 hr. no overtime, just straight pay. If this isnt going to be to my advantage then she can hire someone else to do her shift. Thanks, Linda

I'm sorry linda, I got kinda confused on this. I thought somebody offer you a contract. are you saying you work for another cleaning service? if so, as an employee or what? you might have to explain in a little more detail.

Yes, right now I am still working for another cleaning service. I also have my own, but with her I am an employee. Sorry for confusion.
Thanks, Linda

Another approach might be to buy the contract from her. Or you offer her a percent of contract from this job as long as you have it, if it pays enough. just some thoughts. I hate when cleaning companies try to make employees pay their on taxes. To someone who doesn't know better , they think wow, $11.00 hr thats great. Then at the end of the year they are ruined because they didn't put back around 20% to 28% of it to pay in. Also this lady may be trying to get out of paying insurance and Workman's comp. I think Regular Workman's comp will not cover , unless it is specifically sit up to cover sub contractors. Make sure you are covered under her policy and have copy of certificate just in case something happens and it comes back on you.

I think I am just going to stick to being her employee. I am hoping to have enough accounts by this summer that it wont matter anyway. If I had the account I would hire someone to do it for me and her offer isnt going to cover that.
Thanks everyone, Linda

That sounds wise. Now you can have time to get quality high paying accounts of your own.

I agree, this has been stressing me out, lol. Also, I think what im gonna do is tell her if she wants to leave and put me in charge I want $11.50 hr for my time and hard work lol. If not, she can get someone else to cover for her. Im tired of working my backside off all the time for her anyway. I need a break.

I heard a saying one time on how to keep down stress? It was, "Sometimes I just sit and think, but mostly I just sit. " Can't remember where I heard it but it stuck with me.

In vancouver, wa cleaning places trying to pay you $9.00 that is fine for people that don't know the prices but when you start your own business then you relize that you are working for little pay and doing all the work then you know that they are making about 75% of your money that you couold have your self if you jusy had your own business. sorry but I'm going to get off the subject for just a moment and tell you that my husband has been working for a insulation company he make's about $400.00 a week but he knows that the jobs that he does are priced at about $10,000 and he only gets 1,000 of it now it sucks because he is payed by sq feet and he does all the work and they get all the money.
