Hello and Happy New Year to you all!! Have a question. I am going on a walk-thru tomorrow for a church that's accepting bids for cleaning. I am not sure exactly what they need done. I am assuming the norm. It was a member referral and she suggested that the church was a pretty nice size. I might just drive by this afternoon. Anyone have any tips or suggestions on what to look for when I go or if you can suggest a checklist that might help to take with me? Thanks Kim

No checklist, just a note pad ,rolling measuring tape. Don`t be afraid to bid the job normal. You might want to offer a 10% church discount for the job, that works well for us.

I tend to insist that they have at least a minimum list of specifications. In fact, we just bid on a church and were provided with a relatively good list of specs. Still, during our site inspection there were questions that they had not considered. They have an altar group that do not want any work done around the altar, there was an area used for teen drop ins that required serious floor work that they hadn't considered, Seriously worn wooden floors that they requested be damp mopped but which would hasten deterioration of the floor. etc. etc. We have a general list of specs for all locations and then make amendments to that given the site in question. We also take a digital camera and laser measuring device to make size calculations and details available to us after the visit. Hope this helps. I can forward a copy of our standard specs to you if you like.

I must apologize to everyone if I gave the wrong impression. The standard list of specifications I have is basically developed for office, commercial , industrial work. It is not specifically tailored for churches. However, it does provide the basis for all the questions that I ask ie, walls cleaned, how high , to shoulder height , how often, floors maintained , kitchen work to be done, office work to be done, etc. I then simply amend the questions to all the different rooms that I am looking at whether it be the main reception area in an office or the community centre in a church. Hope this clears up any misconception. Bill PS. Have been extremely busy and apologize for not sending list of specifications anyway. Will try to get out asap.

Someone posted about marketing churches on another board & I responded there, but figured I would place this here to see what you guys think. I have an idea or maybe more of a question on this topic. Does anyone know if churches have local associations that they belong to or newsletters that they subscribe to ? I ask this with the idea of placing an ad in them geared specifically toward churches. You could offer 10% of every billing goes back into the church as a "tithe" or would that be considered a bribe, if so "sorry God just a thought"
but the newsletter or something ad might be an idea, what do the pros think??

I know here , there is a section in Newspaper that tell about church events , church addresses and time services start. Seems like that would be a good place to put an add for cleaning. You know they look to see where there add is located and will see other adds around them. Also remember that some churches do not call it tithing . I would just suggest that you offer a discount to all churches .
