I went today to do a walk through of the Town Hall and Police Dept they want it cleaned every week. The total sq ft is 4194. I really want this job but they are requesting me to do carpet cleaning and strip and wax floors at a separte price. They also want me to spot clean the carpet every week and maintain once a month wax coat. I have never waxed or buffed floors or clean carpets. I do just basic cleaning. This will be my first commercial job. I have been doing residential and construction. They also want the basic stuff done. They are suppling toliet paper, paper towels, hand washing liquid, and trash can liners. The contract also states that "Contractor shall not assign or sub-contract the whole or any part of contract." Do I rent the equipment to do this and learn how to clean carpets and buff and wax floors or do I tell them that I don't offer these services? I would like to be able to contract those jobs out since they are only monthly and by request. I need some advice on what to do and how to approach them about this in a professional manner. Thanks in advance.

It`s government. When is the bid due? How fast of a learner are you? How much money do you have set aside for equipment?

My advice, if you have no experience doing floors or cleaning carpet, you had better hire someone, or I hope you have a fast learning curve. Doing floors I will agree is not rocket science but it takes experience and a fair degree of knowledge to do it right. If you don't have the equipment, I suggest that you hire someone who has experience in both floors and carpet, take him and look at the equipment you need to rent or purchase.. If part of the tender document says no subcontracting , you will have to have these people on staff.
