Fall cleaning curbs indoor allergens OUR HEALTH: PREVENTION WATCH You've heard about "spring cleaning," but what about a "fall cleaning"? As the days get shorter and temperatures fall, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology suggests that year-round allergy sufferers do just that. Indoor allergens include dust mites, mold spores, pet dander and cockroaches. The academy's suggestions include these steps to combat them: Put mattresses, box springs and pillows in special plastic cases that are allergy-proof or "non-allergenic." Studies have proven that these reduce dust mites. Wash blankets, sheets and pillowcases in 130 degree water every week. Clean moldy surfaces, such as the corners of showers or under the sink. Keep pets out of the bedroom. Wash your hands after petting them Anymore Fall Cleaning Suggestions? www.southbendtribune.com/stories/2005/10/12/living.20051012-sbt-MICH-D1-Fall_cleaning_curbs_.sto

Keep pets out of the bedroom? My dog would cry abuse if he couldn't get in the bed at night. Patti

Well for years we had to do fall cleaning as well as spring cleaning so this is no surprise too me.We would start will the bedding just to do it again be cause we would all be sneezing like crazy by the end of the day from the dust that mom would say YOU didn't wash the bedding right. Clean or replace furnace filters, vac floor vents, clean window sills/tracks (dust and pollen gather there all summer while we are enjoying the sun), wash curtains and bedskirts etc. Traci
