CROWZ...even though it is only you and your hubby doing the work, you still need to price your jobs as if you had employees! Because soon you will need to hire help and you dont want to be Scr**ed out of money

Hello! I am new here -- My name is Melody from New Jersey...about to start my own cleaning business...will go to township tomorrow to talk to zoning officer...
Most of what's been said here are about prices per hour per person...
Question: Which is better - charging per hour or per job? I learned from Patti about her per job policy according to number of rooms and baths and not size by sq ft.
Also, does anybody know of current prices here in Southern New Jersey (Atlantic County)?

Loday I still figure in the size of the home when bidding jobs. But if there are a lot of bathrooms, I charge more because bathrooms take a good amount of time. Also, even though I charge by the home and not by the hour, I still figure how many hours it will take and base that on what I want to make on the hour. If you want to make 25.00 per hour per person, and the home takes 2 people 3 hours to clean, then you should charge 150.00 for the home. I have found that most clients want to know upfront what they will be paying each time to have their homes cleaned. Unless of course they want add-on services to their regular cleaning. You just need to decide what you want to make on the hour per person and price your work by that amount. Patti

Another reason to charge by the home and not by the hour is, after you have cleaned a home say every other week for a month or so you get pretty familar with the home and can breeze right through it. So if you are charging 90.00 per cleaning for this home and after a few cleanings it only takes you 2 hours to do the maintenance cleanings, then you are now making 45.00 per hour on the home. This happens all the time with us. Just thought I would make that point. Patti

I am just starting out in the cleaning buisness, but I figured why not put my skills to the test. I have been cleaning pretty much my whole life anyway, lol. I just wanted input on charges: My first house is 2 story, with dogs, 2 adults. and 2 kids. Also has 9 rooms total. Someone tell me what they figure would be a good price, I don't want to overcharge or undercharge! Another figure in this is: it is 30minutes from my home.

Dee Welcome Dee First maybe you should make an introduction to let us know where your from, territory matters on pricing structures. Secondly, what do you plan on charging? Thirdly-I didn`t see a please anywhere in that request.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and new to the cleaning business, and like most people my biggest problem area is estimating price. I seem to have got the three bedroom houses down, but it's the bigger homes I'm having trouble with. I'm in the atlanta area by the way. I'm not sure what quotes to give either initial, weekly, biweekly or monthly for large homes with four bedrooms (one average size, one huge master and two large adjoining bedrooms), usually one or two huge bathrooms and one smaller full bathroom plus one half bath downstairs. The ground floor would have a large kitchen with enough room for a large breakfast table, dining room, living room, office, an extra living room, two sets of stairs and a foyer. I don't know what square footage these houses come in at, but they're big. Imagine upper middle class homes, but not actual mansions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. In my own mind I know how long it takes to clean these homes, but I guess knowing my own budget I can't imagine paying the prices I have in my head to charge these people. I just want to make sure I'm on the right track. Thanks very much.

Hi everyone,
Ok I just got a call from a lady wanting a monthly clean. She lives in a double wide, 2200 sq. ft. 4 bdr. 2 bath. Do you think $125.00 would be a fair price for the monthly clean and $150.00 for the initial? Im thinking if someone wanted this done on a wkly. I would charge around $70.00 and bi-wkly $85.00??
Thanks, Linda
