How do you handle customers that want you to clean carpets, sub or do it yourself? What type of equipment do you use if you do it?
Thanks

if you do not know how to clean carpets then sub them out. there is a lot of liability involved and not knowing what you are doing can get VERY expensive VERY fast. educate yourself on the proper proceedured of the various types of cleaning you intend to offer before you offer them. if you sub out your carpet work make sure you have a no competition clause in your service agreement with the subcontractor. check out all the forms in the members area.

I do carpet work myself. I've a dinky box extractor, and a self-contained 12 gallon job.
I did a lot of study on the subject, and I have an IJCSA Mentor who has been instrumental! The last carpet job I did, the lady gave me a rib-busting hug and a kiss....on the lips! And that was after writing the check!

I agree with rclllc, a lot of liability . Perhaps you could take some classes or at very least find a mentor to help you. John, Whats up with all the kisses. You must be super man cleaning service. But was this kiss for such a great job; because you did not charge enough; because you are such a distinctive looking gentleman or because you had put your shirt on inside out? lol

But was this kiss for such a great job Yes. If I say so myself, the whole place came out great! Of course it was grunge city (eviction cleanout) and I worked 10 hours on it.
Because you did not charge enough That too, probably...but she was complimenting the look of the carpet a lot.
because you are such a distinctive looking gentleman If you consider Quasimodo distinctive looking.
because you had put your shirt on inside out? I don't think so! (But I have been known to do stuff like that!)
I stopped at a QuickTrip recently, wearing janitorials and my IJCSA ballcap. The nicest girl behind the counter, chatting and making small talk, asked me what the ballcap meant....her eyes lit up at "International" then clouded at "Janitorial"....she edged away at "Cleaning" and was ringing the next customer during "Services Association."
When I said "I'm on the Board of Directors and I own a cleaning company" she ignored the customer, and punched 4 notches in a free coffee card "I'm sorry, I forgot to give you this...."
;D

If you're not the carpet cleaning expert, definately sub the job out.
While you're at it, find the best and most respected carpet cleaner in your area and setup a joint venture with them. Nice way to make money for doing nothing!
