These are all great ideas. As a newbie I am constantly looking for new ways of doing things.
I usually start out by going through the house and seeing what I'm up against and then working top to bottom, like Amof wrote. Hadn't thought about the side to side, though. I find that I do a lot of backtracking so I am trying to find ways to cut that out. The exercise is good, though!
