There are experts who can clean a 4000 sq ft home in 4 hours or less by themselves using a system. Ok...is there a video available that shows how a system works? I learn better if I can "watch" how something is done. Thanks, I appreciate it. Sherri

My system is, i work top to bottom, left to right.
I go in a home, turn on all lights in the rooms that are to be cleaned and i start in the top level of the home if its a 2 story. i go in the room, work from top to bottom.Left to right. Cobwebbing, dusting, then floors. And Vacuum/mop your way outta the room and turn the light off when done. Go to the next room and do the same. Top to bottom, left to right. If its a 1 story home, work the same way, but try to work your way out a back door or main door so your not walking on floors you already cleaned.
Once you get a system down, its like clockwork when you go in a home. You know what to do before you even go in the house and clean.
I average about 550-650sqft per hour depending of course on condition of home,# of rooms to be cleaned, type of flooring, duties to be performed, pets, kids etc... Each home is different. But on average i can clean a 1200sqft home in about 2 hours. I have a 3880 sqft home i clean in 5 hours by myself. It takes so long because of the woodfloors, and tile in all the rooms. If its was carpet and all i had to do is vac it, i would be out sooner. I have a 2200 sqft that takes me 4 hours everytime i clean because there packrats and the animal hair is ungodly. So each home is unique and alot of things can change the cleaning times.

I would just like to "see" what I need to know in order to make it more time efficient. I have one house that is 4000 sq ft (my aunt and uncle) . They run a lot of their business at home so I am always having to dodge them, especially when I mop the floors....it gets a bit frusterating when someone walks on the floor you just mopped and leaves tracks. I leave the tracks there. Also, if I finnish quickly downstairs I have to wait until they leave their bedroom before I can clean. All of this really slows me down.

Shiny, just ask them to be out of the rooms while cleaning, or if possible, they can keep to one room of the house for however long you're there.

Most of my clients are pretty good about staying out of the way, the ones that just aren't home are of course the best.
Usually I run into men that work at home, in this case I give notice "I'm coming in there in 5 minutes"..."Or your office is next". Usually they take warning but if not...I come right in and dust around them.
Of course I haven't found the balls to run the vacuum when they're are the phone, but I've been so tempted. Generally I'm considerate, but a person can only be so considerate when time is a factor and there are 2 more houses to clean.
Now if they are paying by the hour that a different story....they can take their own sweet time. LOL

I do the bathroom first, then the kitchen, then I dust, then sweep myself out of the house. There are other things of course, but this is the general idea of how I do it. I dont like to clean when someone is at home, but I have made myself compromise in that area. No one is to be in the room that I clean.

That is what I did with my Friday client. Bathroom, then kitchen, then the other rooms. This way, the hard stuff is out of the way and everything else seems easy. I tend to spend most of my time in the bathrooms & kitchen because they seem to always need the most work. -Nicole

Our System: For one person cleaning: Start with emptying all the trash in all rooms. Then straighten all rooms. Do all the dusting in all rooms. Clean all glass in all rooms. Clean Bathrooms. Clean Kitchen. Do all floors. Start at the top and work your way down.
For 2 person teams: One person does the trash, picking up, dusting, glass and kitchen. The second person does the bathrooms and floors, then helps with kitchen.

As I get older and slower I find that the best system to use is the one that has the least amount of foot steps in it . No back tracking if there is a way to do it all on one trip to each area. This system works well for my body in all areas of cleaning. Have any of you ever wore one of those meters that hang on your belt and tells you how far you walk each day. You should try one and see if you can cut down on walking time a little more each time you do a job. Less walking time = more productivity time. Just a thought. thanks, Dan

So I have been thinking... if I do the kitchen before the other rooms, then I am walking back and forth over the clean floor and the sink is getting dirty.
Maybe the kitchen should be the absolute last thing?

I have been lucky so far, the bathrooms and kitchens in the homes I do are off to the side. I dont have to re-enter once it is clean. I will pay attention to this on future homes Linda

Our first step: Is if the customer is scheduled to pay that day " Find the Check" Then we use Patti`s system though we empty the trash at the end.
