Hi guys.
I received a call today to put in a quote on a Terrazzo floor my problem is: I have never done a Terrazzo floor before. I was just wondering if the procedure is the same as stripping and waxing a vinyl composite tile floor. Is there any precautions or special procedures that I should take if I quoted and got the job or should I just shy away from the quote. I would hate to shy away however, because I have no experience. I'm not sure what to do. I have put this guy on hold until tomorrow afternoon I would greatly appreciate any advice.
Thanking you in advance for your replies.

Regular Cleaning Procedures and Maintenance Recommendations
New Terrazzo Floors:
Clean new terrazzo floors with a cleaning solution that contains a polishing agent. Apply the agent to small areas at a time. Scrub the cleaned area with red pad on a floor machine or auto scrubber. Once the area has been scrubbed, remove the excess solution with a wet vacuum. Rinse the area thoroughly and remove the excess rinse with a wet vacuum. Mop the area twice with a clean mop. After the floor has dried, apply a sealer.
Existing Terrazzo Floors:
Floors that already have an applied sealer may be maintained with a polishing agent. Daily floor polishing will yield a glossy floor finish. Always make sure to dust mop the floor before using an auto scrubber or floor machine. Polishing products and cleaning regimens are provided by several manufacturers.
What to Use:
For Safe Terrazzo Floor Cleaning and Maintenance use Marbalex Stone Floor Cleaner and use with Rayon Mop.
For Sealing use Franklin Accolade Sealer Finish is for Resilient Flooring.
Floor Polishing with White Pad.

Ideally, terrazzo floor whether in a cementious medium or epoxy should be maintained as you would a stone floor. It can be ground, honed or polished. Generally using a Cimex machine. However, as we all know, most clients are unwilling to pay for the proper way of maintenance. We have treated Terrazzo flooring in our school contracts just like VCT . Strip with low pH stripper, neutralize and apply finish. Comes up very nicely. Biggest problem always has been the cove mouldings where the client insists on wax. This requires significant hand work and you better budget for it. My two cents worth.
