I agree!
I set my own prices. I could care less what anyone else charges. I know what i need to make an hour to keep my business running.
There's ad's in the paper all the time for people offering to clean homes for $8-10 an hour. No way!
I am licensed and insured and my time and knowledge is worth more than that.
You figure out what you need to make an hour to profit.Don't go off what others charge.
Sometimes i am lower than other cleaners and sometimes i'm higher. But i know i am better than most around my area, and if someone wants to pay less than what i bid ,I figure they'll get what they pay for. Then they can call me to clean after they figure out the other cleaner isn't worth crap.

Go after quality accounts and not quantity. It may take a little longer to get enough but through doing a great job and referrals you will get there. It is better to have 4 jobs then to have 8 jobs and make the same amount of money. For some reason a lot of people measure success by the volume of work they do. For example; a couple of carpet cleaners here will clean as low as .08 a sq foot where I may charge .28 a sq foot for same job. They work all day all week. They can't afford help or to buy new equipment. They are wearing down fast and still just barely making it. They do the jobs in a hurry to get to the next one and end result is they are not doing a good job and they are not getting referrals. I don't want to become like they are. I want to be the best and do a few quality jobs. I want to have great equipment and great employees. Now with that in mind, I am able to succeed because we offer several services. I could not just make it on my carpet cleaning so I offer other services also at a higher price. My goal is to not work at all. I want to have employees doing everything so I can go fishing. To do this I have to make enough money to cover all the expenses and make a profit. If I tied myself down to a bunch of low paying jobs I will never reach that goal. I understand that when you are first starting out that you may have to charge less but keep in mind where you want to be a few years down the road and start building that firm foundation as soon as you can. Volume has worked for some. example - wal-mart. If you are big enough and can handle the volume then volume might work for some. Just not for me.

You all always know how to cheer me up and you are so right. So far I have been going by my own rates and business is slow, but I am gaining clients and that is what matters. I am going outside my normal area now and I am sure that will be a huge help so I am not really worried anymore. I have some great friends here who have been so much help to me. Your the best!! Thanks, Linda
