Got estimate request from website today for a 3 bd, 3 ba, 2400sq ft home, weekly. On top of my cleaning list, he said he may have special requests such as silverware and other things like that. He move from NY and he was paying and hourly rate and he said they were normally there 6 or 7 hrs. His main issue was that he doesn't want to have to haggle with the ladies about doing something he requests. I figure if he'll pay hourly I don't care what he wants us to do (within reason) as long as we are paid for the time we are there. I told him to e-mail me with a list of any extras he may want done. Atleast that way I have an idea? What should I do? If I go hourly, what would be a good rate? I normally pay by the job but it never goes lower than $8/hr.

Will you be cleaning yourself? Are you furnishing the supplies? Just from past experience If they want an hourly rate get ready for a ton of work, just like punching the clock again, and the customers are usually CHEAP! Though coming from NY his price may have been higher for hourly work. I think its better to give a flat rate for the work performed. Add- On services then can always be purchased at an hourly rate after, polish the silverware 1.5 hours etc.. etc.

I agree Kevin. James,Keep in mind also a minimum charge. If you take it by the hour , they may ask you to work a hour here and there.
