Hi, Just need a little encouragement. Have been doing houses for more than 2 decades and am trying to get offices. I have 2 through word of mouth. I've been in the yellow pages for 2 years and have sent out 4x6 post cards advertising my servises. No calls for offices. Can't go door to door because of the no soliciting signs. And when I call and try to speak to the business manager, I am given their voice mail. I leave a message, but never receive a call back. If I could just talk to someone face to face, I'm sure I could get somewhere. Is there another technique that anyone can clue me in on. Thanks for your help. Kathy

If they will not put their self in front of you , then put yourself in front of them. Think like them. They are business people. They go to things like Rotary Clubs; Referral Network Groups; Charity Events; Coffee Shops; Chamber of Commerce; Ribbon Cuttings; Home Shows;Bowling Leagues; and more . They also read things like Business Journals; Stock Market reports. If you advertise , put it where they read. Once in front of them, make it known who you are by things like, Wearing a very nice , professional uniform. Make a speech when you can. Introduce yourself when allowed to at any of the events or groups. Have a nice lettered vehicle sitting out next to theirs. If it is a nice lettered vehicle then park in front of places like office supply stores and leave it there a couple hours a week if allowed. And so on. Look like the part; be the part; do the part; get the part you want.

Forget the phone book advertising and post cards. Go door to door and hand out professional quality literature on your business. Get the correct contact name for cleaning at offices and call them after leaving the literature to their attention. Work to get an appointment by telling them what makes you better than other services. If you can't get the appointment now, contact them every few months until you do. Do the same thing with thousands of businesses in your area and you will get appointments and business consistently for years to come. Start working harder for appointments and you will get them! Good luck! Peter Weiss Total Maintenance Services www.clean-that-mess.com

What about the NO SOLICITING signs on the door? I love seeing those signs. They can work in your favor. If I have an account then the signs help keep most of the competition away. The way around those signs are by doing the things I suggested earlier: How many of your competitors do any of the following or all of them? Do you think if you did them that you will have a better chance of getting in the door then leaving a card or brochure at a place of business that has a sign on the door saying no soliciting. If you cross that sign then I think it shows right off the start that you are one that does not show respect to the wishes of others. thats just my opinion. Previous Post on this subject. I`ll tell ya, I learn something new here everyday. Who would have thought that once you get an account, heading up to the local office supply store and buying a $3 no soliciting sign would keep your competition away, or at least scare them away for a bit. Make it known now that every account, new or old, we will be placing that sticker on the door. Kathy, the people you clean houses for, have you cross marketed your office cleaning to them?
