When I send out an invoice for a commercial account do I add state and federal taxes to it or just leave it at the price quoted for the work? Thanks in advance for your help.

If your state requires you to charge sales tax, you would add sales tax...not federal tax.

Thank you, I erred on the side of caution and charged local sales taxes. I still appreciate your response because it reassures me that I did the right thing.

I was unaware that any state had sales tax requirements for service work.... I would check with your franchise tax board, they can tell you for sure one way or another.

We are from upstate NY, Fingerlakes area. We are required to collect local and state sales tax on all cleaning jobs, currently 8%. However, carpet cleaning is non-taxable according to a friend of mine whom I sublet all my carpet cleaning to.
