Hi. I need to hire a worker for cleaning some offices. which is the best way to go about this. Can I pay someone and call them a contractor, and send them a 1099, or hire which is more exspensive

there are several things that the irs looks at and demands for you to consider and classify someone as an independant contractor.
You may want to check the IRS website out for the stipulations.
among them are 1 IC must supply their own tools 2 IC's must have their own insurances including workers comp. 3. you can't tell them where to work, how to work, or control their work. 4. they must be their own business. 5. if you send them a w2, you cant also send them a 1099
Seriously, check this out on the IRS website. They're really cracking down on companies calling employees independant contractors. You dont want to be held liable for all their insurances and receive penalties on top of that. I know ppl who have gone in that direction and got burned very badly.
