Hi!....my name is John and I'm new on here and am starting a residential (only residential, for now--don't want to work evenings and days both!) cleaning service here in the Tucson area. I have been doing a lot of research and plan to start this business in about a month, using employees, including a manager/employee I want to find who has been in the industry and can help "fill in some gaps" for me, especially with concern for the Tucson market. I only basically know the business side of things (B.S. in Managment & Gen. Business) and have run a business before, but never with employees. I am well aware that finding good help is the main concern for employee-based housecleaning services, and I have some good ideas about this.
My main question, though, that I need an answer to, before I start my residential cleaning business for sure, is a slight concern that I have: for residential cleaning, in a metro area, is there enough demand for housecleaning overall?.....are the main people who purchase housecleaning services mainly only households making $200,000 or more?--thus limiting my overall market to just this small (maybe 5-7% of all houses) segment? Or are there plenty of others. I know what the books say....now I want to hear what you say.
In sum, what percentage of households use a housecleaning or housekeeping service regularly (weekly or biweekly) nationwide? Do not include independent contractors (one person cleaning). I'm sure these numbers and statistics vary....and how do you know which numbers to trust? Perhaps the human element is better....
Any help you can give me on this topic would be GREATLY appreciated...thanks!
John
