As a brand new business owner, I am very inspired by the commercials of Allstate ( I believe). The spokesman says how they opened during the depression, and look at them now!! When we began, just a couple months ago, we ran into some, not much, negativity. Not blatant, but comments like, "good luck in THIS economy", maybe as someone who has been very poor and that was for the majority of my life, I am just used to finding a way to get by. But I have no doubt that we are doing this at the right time. But those kinds of success stories get me even more pumped up Now I am not a doom n'gloomer, but inspiration in any form, I'll take ;D

Kayle, I think the economy as the commercial is pointing out, back to the simple things. In my area if you head out to the restaurant on Friday night, lines out the door for people waiting to get tables, movie theaters are packed and always do good in a poor economy. Seeing this it made me think, wow, if the economy is so bad what are all these people doing out?
Alot of people I think still want a quick fix, quick pick me up, they will go out to dinner and the movies 10 times before buying that big screen TV.
Concentrating your service ads on quick good fixes, is the way to go for the next six months. Special one time services, treats services that are in need of doing.

Kevin, it is not the same in my area as well may not be the same in other areas. I went to Shoneys last Fri night for all you can eat crab legs. I expected a long line, instead about 80% of the seats were empty and that was at peak time. I don't see any lines at any of the restaurants in my town. I talked to a fast food restaurant here last week and even they said they were down close to %50 from last year. It is bad. We can try to color a pretty pic but in the end is reality. As for Allstate, how much money did they have to start with. I am sure they had a foundation strong enough to withstand the depression. Sorry, I am usually optimistic but after losing several accounts to the economy and having to go back to basics or cold calling and competing against low prices by desperate cleaning services, is taking a toll on my optimism.

Dan: I have to agree with you. Things are still bad, Like you I have lost several accounts due to the economy and for awhile I thought it will get better but.......... Im starting to have my doubts more and more each week. I just keep hoping and praying that things will get better for all of us.
