I have never tried it but has anyone used an ice cube?? I figure it may harden & help you scrape it away? Found this on a search??
To remove chewing gum from carpet, get out yout electric hair dryer. Heat the gum, being careful not to melt the carpet fibers. Use a piece of plastic wrap or a plastic bag to lift the softened gum away. Just allow it to stick to the plastic, then pull it up. This may get most of it. Next, apply Extra Strength Ben Gay, or another muscle rub containing methly salicylate. Use plastic again, or a rag to pull more gum out. Repeat if necessary. Once you completely remove the chewing gum from the carpet, clean the area with a mild detergent solution (a few drops of dishsoap in a cup of warm water will work). Rinse with warm water and dry the area.

Where I used to work we had this stuff you would spray on the gum and it would freeze it so you could scrape it off. Thats what we used.

Hello to Everyone,
Everything you said are very good procedures. There is one more and it is the inexpensive way. If you have a Carpet Trimmer or just a plain Scissors Trim the Affected Area very carefully and lightly on edges working around till you have removed all parts. Of Course talk to the Homeowners first about Trimming the Carpets first. This will be the Last Resort if you have Tried Every Chemicals and Ways. Always get the Homeowners Permission and tell them Listen I have Tried ........... and the best possible way and I can trim it around. This is IICRC approved method too and ASCR . For Glued Down Commercial Carpets Please Purchase Carpet Gum Scraper.
I Hope I have been of Help
Thanks

Replace it with the Cut Portion( Damaged) and Bring the portion from Closet to Replace Damaged Area. Trim a little bit if necessary using Carpet Scissors. Put Carpet Round Tape on top of padding Remove Adhesive and Stick the Portion and slide carpet Roller on Sides. If needs more Adhesive use Glue Gun. Repeat using carpet Roller.
