I cleaned this house yesterday was expecting 1 bdrm. 1 bath, kitchen, living room too clean and carpet in 2 rooms. First when got there took a look around it was a move-in and had 2 baths. I know i got cheated on cleaning the carpet according to this forum's pricings. I use to like renting machines and this time did not rent the rug doctor went to home depot and rented from there. I used a combination of simple green and vingegar(floors were'nt too bad) thought it cleaned it good. Used the same solution to clean my carpets and my daughter and her boyfriend used on theres. I think it came out good but used the spot remover by Zep and they found white spots on carpet and i did too on mine where sprayed. I know was suppose to rinsed it off which i did still there. Maybe not made for our type of carpets I hope it didn't turn out like that at that house i cleaned...so far no complaint. Would like to just buy a carpet shampooer but don't want to pay that much for one since i don't get much calls to do this and being a start out yet. Tina

there is a fair chance it would have been the vinegar reacting with the spot cleaner that caused the white spots.try a carpet shampoo with the same spot remover and see if results are the same.you should be able to pick up a secondhand carpet cleaner fairly cheap, have a look on ebay.Cheers

Hi Tina,
Just a Few Suggestions:
As a Cleaning Professional sometimes we cannot turn down Clients for going an extra mile. But we can do it and explain to them what we have and dont have in order for them to understand.Carpet Cleaning is Easy and Profitable when you have the Necessary Tools,Equipment and Chemicals at your Disposal.Renting a Machine like the Rug Doctor and using Vinegar to Clean are not the Proper Way to Clean Carpets.(You will Just do More Harm Than Good) These are some Tips that will give you an Idea. These are my Articles.
Major manufacturers of high end carpeting agree that quality nylon commercial carpeting should last approximately 8 – 10 years with proper maintenance, extending its life to a level consistent with clients investment.
We recommend that high end carpet surfaces be vacuumed daily to keep dry soils from working their way into the pile and abrading the nylon fibers. In addition to enhancing the image and comfort of the facility, carpet is an effective trap for soils and particles that might otherwise remain airborne in the environment.
Improper cleaning procedures can leave excessive chemical residues and soils behind in carpet which may turn your carpet into a breeding ground for microbes.
As a Consumer and somebody is Cleaning my Carpets with a Rug Doctor and Zep and Vinegar I would certainly Not Pay the Cleaner. Why? I, myself as a Consumer can Rent this Things out at any Store and Do it Myself without Spending a Lot.Besides Rug Doctors will only Wet Carpets and not Clean it. In Carpet Cleaning,Most Cleaners get Paid by the square footage, by Area or by Estimate. I have seen a lot of Cleaners venturing into Floor Cleaning as they are profitable.
If you are a Maid Service and would have an Oppurtunity to get a Building Contract or Residential that would require Floor Maintenance. I suggest that You may want to Ask Questions or Read Some Articles or Look at Cleaning Supplies List to get more Information. Here You can Ask Admin or God of Cleaning about things necessary before venturing in the Floor Industry.
With Proffesional Experience I have Seen Companies make Mistakes on Carpet Cleaning or Floor Cleaning that they were Required to Replace the Whole Floors or Carpeting due to Improper Cleaning and Costs them Thousands of Dollars.
Buy proper Chemicals like Spotters Pre-Spray Detergent Deodorizers Etc... You Can look for Second Hand machine at E-Bay( as our buddy God of Cleaning suggested) or buy a New and Cheap one Compare PSI of Machine and amount of Water Lifts As I always Say Ask and Ask a lot of Questions before doing one Thing.
Just an Advise
Jude

Thats some great advice, also suggested before hire a carpet cleaner, subcontract the work out , and you let them into the homes or buildings. Mark the price up a couple of cents per square foot. Advertise it. Then you will be watching the carpet cleaner that you use on every job, watch and learn. After watching 8-10 jobs being performed (and making money at the same time) Look into buying your own equipment. (or keep the relationship the same) making money for just setting up the deal.
