Thanks for the reply, I agree this is a trust business. I keep a list of customer's that break agreements so I don't provide service to them more than once!

Idaho is not called the right to work-slave wage state for nothing! Boise our capitol is only $20 to $25 per for house cleaning hour max!

I found out the cleaner that under bid me is charging $50 weekly and is NOT insured or bonded. She charges $10 an hour.

I was going to vacuum and mop, clean 2 1/2 bathrooms. The house was very clean but I also thought $70 was a fair price for the house and it had a kitchen down stairs and up stairs! A lot of people here think cleaners are able to work for peanuts. However once I explain the expsense of providing equipment, insurance and advertising most people except my bid.

I had a new customer or atleast thought I did. I met with her and she agreed to $70 a week. I had asked if she thought that was fair and she said yes. I was supposed to start next Tuesday at nine. She then called me today two days after agreeing to the job and having me mail her proof of insurance, that she is going with two ladies that are cheaper.
I called and offered to match there price, but she declined. This leads me to wonder if I am too high for weekly. I do another smaller home for $60 a week. These are both large homes however the one I lost is at least 3500 square feet. The one I do for $60 is 2900 square feet. Prices her are $15 to $20 per hour and everyone balks at $150 for initial cleans. Ideas?
I did get a house floors only for $40 weekly and $50 biweekly for basic cleaning (cancer pt) gave discount. Both new today! Same family two different homes VERY CLEAN!
Thanks

I am not sure I trust them. They are in area were I had some problems with customer's. I figure if they own two house they can find some cash. I did refer them to another cleaning company. Several said they do not barter.

They owned a Nationally Franchised Store. Apparently they retired and moved up here and the company the husband started working for after he retired is outsourcing to Mexico. So money is probably tight. They are elderly and it is hard for me to turn them down. But I am leary of the idea. I am going to check it out and explain to them I prefer not to barter. I just hate to pass up any possible customer as I am still trying to build up to a full time business. I appreciate all the comments and concerns of anyone with bartering experience.

I give a one time 50% discount for each completed referral cleaning that takes four hours or more. It works out well and my customer's really look for people to refer me to!

I prefer repeat customer's for steady income. Two houses a day is my max as said before . It takes time to do a good Job. I would like 25% one time cleans because the profit is higher $20 an hour in Idaho vs $15 for repeat customer's.

How do you handle customers that want you to clean carpets, sub or do it yourself? What type of equipment do you use if you do it?
Thanks

Mildew?

This is the first time anyone has asked me to clean walls with a mildew problem involved. Where do I go to get and or find a certified level of mold cleaning knowledge? Also once I see the walls if it is a major amount/thickness of mold I am planning on telling here to call a flood specialist. I just want to see if it is minor or complete wall mold first. As this was a refereal from another small cleaning company I am going to check it out before I turn it down.
I am interested in certification for mold removal. Currently I do not have equipmnet for pumping out water. According to the owner this was a leak down some walls. I am going to wear a mask and gloves if i do the job. It is supposed to cleaned and dried out already, other than the walls being scrubbed down.
Thanks!

Is a 50-50 water ammonia solution good for cleaning painted walls with mildew in a basemnet. It was flooded. The owner says it wipes off, have not seen it yet.
Thanks!

As far as how long it might take, that just depends on how dirty it is and what she wants done. The first house I did that size was BAD and took me seven hours!
Good luck!

I would not do anything under $100 and would charge at least $150 for the first cleaning. So for six cleanings including the inital atleast $650 and that is probably a little low! This would include the travel time/distance since it is more than just a one time job.
Good Luck!!!
